Better Business for SMBs
As competition and tight profit margins put the squeeze on office product suppliers, technology can ease some of the burden by improving efficiency. As with any industry, getting and keeping customers is vital to office product suppliers. According to Research by Hoover’s, 70% of the $55 billion office products market is held by the 50 largest wholesalers. With the right tools, SMBs can compete with same-sized dealers as well as the mega-chains. To be competitive, independent and small to mid-sized office suppliers need to overhaul manual ordering methods and inefficient office operations to improve productivity and offer the same speed and quality of service as the big companies.

An obsessive compulsive’s dream, these products hold the promise of organizing your closet to make sure your blue cashmere sweater can be spotted with ease. A document management (DM) system works much the same way.

Technology Boosts HR Productivity
Technology, in general, should provide quicker access to information, improve communications, and improve employee services. With the right technology, HR departments can not only boost productivity but also add value throughout the whole organization. While many departments within companies automate procedures without creating an impact on the rest of the business, HR departments – acting as a central information hub within most organizations – have the potential to create a ripple effect when they automate. That is why choosing the right technology is vital to improve productivity not only in HR but for the entire company.

Document Imaging Solution Improves Loan Officer Efficiency
Mountain 1st Bank & Trust, a North Carolina-based community bank, has become one of the fastest-growing community banks in the nation, with 13 branches and more than $490 million in assets. With this growth came a corresponding expansion of the bank’s loan volume. The bank typically processes 120 to 150 loans per month. “Initially, when loan officers at one of the branches needed a document, they would have to call the central branch and ask one of the clerks to fax the document over,” says Kirk Robinson, chief credit officer and executive VP for Mountain 1st. “The clerk would then spend time locating the document and faxing it, which could take at least an hour for each request.”

Spring Cleaning Improves SMB Productivity
Traditionally enterprise content management (ECM) systems help organize
and maintain office information for large corporations. However,
for non-enterprise size companies like small- and medium-sized businesses
(SMBs), without sophisticated systems and processes in place, organization
of information is a challenge that affects everything from productivity
to cluttered filing cabinets and desks to loss of profits. One way
to alleviate these ongoing pain points, in addition to improving
efficiency, is for SMBs to spring clean their offices, much the
same way they would clean their homes seasonally to clear away the
clutter and bring in a much-needed sense of organization. The tips
below offer advice for removing office productivity clutter by eliminating
inefficient data storage and improving workflow processes.
