- 38th county formed in Georgia, created in 1822 from parts of
Clarke, Elbert, Franklin, Jackson and Oglethorpe counties
- Named for President James Madison
- Six municipalities, with Danielsville serving as the county
seat
- Crawford W. Long, the first doctor to use ether in surgery,
was born in Danielsville in 1815
- 23% of land is considered prime agricultural land. Agribusiness
dominates the local economy, with poultry and egg production particularly
important

- Implement in County Clerk's office to automate paper-intensive
process of preparing the agenda, meeting minutes and documentation
for bi-monthly County Commission meetings
- Make agenda files available electronically to commissioners
- Eliminate physical storage, risk of misplaced or lost files
- Provide a central repository with easier storage and retrieval
- Improve workflow processes
- Eventual plan to roll-out FileVision in the Planning and Zoning
Board to handle applications, supporting documentation and maps
- Accounts Payable will also implement FileVision to cut down
on storage costs associated with keeping paper copies of purchase
orders, invoices and check voices
